Conversation with my beloved Grandma

I thought I would quick write this down, so I don't forget.
We talked again about how in her lifetime the events of today,
pandemic and otherwise, she never thought
she would live through or see.
But that she has the assurance that God is still in control
and nothing is beyond is control and that His grace
is sufficient to face the day at hand.
And we talked about our eternal home with Christ and she said
her father, my Great Grandpa W., favourite hymn was
Blessed Assurance, Jesus is Mine...
****
She also talked about how last week
she was asked to make some baked beans for a person
and then someone died and she was asked, as she often is,
to make a cake for that.
And her friend made chicken and noodles and gave her some
and right away she said, all I need is a vegetable and I have a meal.
She knows things like it is better not to worry about what you look like
and bundle up warmly when it's cold or you will feel stuffed up.
And to rest because it's when we get overtired that our defenses are down
and we are more susceptible to colds, etc.
She has really learned how to rest and to realize her need for rest.
Last week she had a busy week because of errands, lunch at her daughters,
the extra cooking/baking so this week she is being careful to space things out
so that she gets more rest.

I love the sense of balance I get from my Grandma, of resting and working,
of healthy habits and doing things in advance/organizing one's baking etc.

I thought I would end this quick blog post with the lyrics for her
father's favourite hymn, that she of course also loves.
***
Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine;
Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long.
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long.
2
Perfect submission, perfect delight,
Visions of rapture now burst on my sight;
Angels descending, bring from above
Echoes of mercy, whispers of love.
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long.
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long.
3
Perfect submission, all is at rest,
I in my Savior am happy and blest;
Watching and waiting, looking above,
Filled with His goodness, lost in His love.
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long.
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long.

I am also so glad when I call my Grandma.
She asked if I was feeling better from my cold, which I am
thank God and she understands kindness and
freedom in making choices in life but also always
in light of her faith in Christ.

I thank God so much for her!
