Thanksgiving 2020

I think for most people celebrating Thanksgiving today,
it was a day of gladness and sadness
all wrapped confusedly into one day.
***
I don't have much more to say about it
but that our hearts were blessed, were glad,
and our hearts were heavy and sad.
***
It was a different type of Thanksgiving.
***
One HUGE thing I was super thankful for,
other than the amazing food of course and a blessing
of a select few coming over,
was that the weather went from rainy to sunny and,
for November, warm.
We even had a walk....
***
I pray that no matter what your personal situation is,
that you know that God sees it,
that He cares and that His mercy and lovingkindness
never fail.  God bless you.

We learned that we had taken so many things for granted, didn’t we. We thought things would always be as they were. We have been so very young. Like C.S. Lewis’s Green Lady in Perelandra, we are getting older so fast, educated by our losses.

Rod Dreher recommended the Clerk of Oxford’s Patreon, in his Thanksgiving Substack newsletter. She had a great poem and comment on the perspective the past can give us, which he shared. (She is a medieval scholar.)

With your positive attitude I know your Thanksgiving meal /day was pleasant and I'm sure the meal was delicious.

We had the same thing: Rain, and while we ate the sun came out brightly. It was around 60 and I opened a window.

That definitely looks like the Perfect Thanksgiving Feast. Yours is a thoughtful and interesting description of the day. I definitely related to some of that.
