{baking & enjoying} ~ Plum Torte

Butter, Sugar, flour, baking powder, salt, 2 eggs.

Always makes think of this exquisite poem:

By William Carlos Williams

I have eaten
the plums
that were in
the icebox

and which
you were probably
for breakfast

Forgive me
they were delicious
so sweet
and so cold

Plums sliced in half,
sugar and cinnamon on top.

Golden with warm baked plums,
tart with sweet.
It's like the plums melted and were made
to be like Christmas ~
warm, surprising, delicious.

Mr. Husband and I shared two pieces
on one plate with the last
of our vanilla ice cream.
(apologies to my many new calendar friends who are
fasting right now; our fast begins next week,
as yours comes to a close).

I love that poem. It is one of the things that stuck with me after all these years (I learned it in high school) Did you know he was a doctor and wrote all his poems on script pads (for prescriptions)? That is why they are so short.

This looks like a good Dormition dessert! I'll make it on Saturday afternoon for our patronal feastday!

I've also heard that poem. Juliana's info is interesting, too.
Plums are something I seem to have gotten away from, but I used to love them years ago!

I have never had anything like that, and now you've given me a new idea for a dessert!
