Juxtaposition

As I've been blogging about
in my new blog,
I am trying to do lots of
wedding planning this week.
The first week of Lent.
This is crazy.
It seems also totally opposite to
what the first week of Lent should be.
But I can't see the future
so I have to do the best with what I am
given to do in the present.
*
I got news today that my job is a go
and that I do start this coming
Monday at 9 AM.
Full time for a month.
But it may be for more months if they
get the budget for it.
Which means I would be working and
traveling, moving and doing the rest of
the wedding preparations
not to mention that I have most lovingly
been invited to various bridal showers
which I have penciled in for when I am
in the places they would be in.
In other words,
provided my job continues
I have no choice but to use my last 1 free week
to try to get as much done as possible.
*
Which means tomorrow I try to make a spreadsheet
for all the invites to the most likely
two events
as I will be the one receiving the RSVPs
since I am here, the Crowning will be here
and my family is not here.
*
Whew.
Any tips on stress management or other things
for wedding planning to make things
simple and easy,
feel free to let me know!
*
I am hoping to see the cater with a friend
tomorrow afternoon so that
I have a better idea of what is
and is not possible...
*
Thank God now at least I can go to church
and pray part 3 of
St. Andrew's Canon.
*
Lord have mercy on us!

I am so happy for you! I pray, though, that you find time to rest sometime during Clean Week and before you start your new job. You seem super busy! :) I love reading your new blog too as I love a good love story <3 The wedding will come together, so don't be too anxious about it! I must admit I envy you, though...I wish my husband and I had had an Orthodox wedding. We married before becoming Orthodox, but it was wonderful just the same! Love to you and prayers for you and your beloved!

Thanks Sarah E - everyone I think is given something different and it is for their salvation. One thing I and Orthoman will never have that you have is marrying when we were younger. You have your whole life God willing to be together and grow together; I will be 4 months from 36 years old when I marry Orthoman and while I see this as God's mercy and timing, before I even knew of Orthoman, I had to come to terms with the fact that my dream of marrying when I was in my earlier 20s or even 20s at all was long gone; I had to grieve and let go of my expectations before I was even ready for Orthoman. I think life is a lot like this. We think we know what would be the best plan for us but God and His wisdom and timing knows better.

Thank you for your support and prayers. I really appreciate them and value your friendship! :)

aye yi yi. Planning our wedding years ago is what lead us to our court house elopement!

I tell people to hire someone. Be it a professional or a friend, it's much easier to have someone else do all the coordinating of guest lists, addresses, RSVPs, etc. Is there a friend who could help out?

I must say I rather enjoy your new blog also.

I am still beaming when I think of you and your new journey, Elizabeth! A few quick notes:

1) From your other blog you noted that you're using Google Docs for your spreadsheets for wedding planning--I did that too and it was SUCH a life saver! You can also create a form using Google Docs for collecting addresses: you send the link to all your friends and loved ones for whom you don't have a mailing address and ask them to fill it in and it will populate in a Google Doc. Then you can use the Google Doc spreadsheet (well, export from it) to print your mailing labels! I did this and it was fantastic because it lowered the margin for error since everyone typed their own mailing address! Let me know if you want the steps on how to set it up and I'll send it to you via email. :)

And, 2) re: stress during wedding planning: the best and most amazing and wonderful new resource you have, is your soon to be husband. (There is God and his saints too, but they aren't a new resource ;) but definitely lean on them too!) Lean on your Orthoman, verbally and physically when you see him, when you feel overwhelmed. It is his joy to support you in that way--trust me :) So let him! It's God's greatest blessing to you both in this new time together--learning to rely on each other fully and completely for sanity and support. I found this to be the case when I was planning my wedding last year (and I still do--glory to God!)

Hugs and prayers continue!

Just think if you were having your wedding on St Thomas Sunday... sometimes Lent is about dealing with whatever gets thrown at us - so glad some of the things thrown at you this year are such happy ones! I'm enjoying your new blog too :)
