Bookish Fun for Today

This book Persuasion by Jane Austen I saw HERE on Miranda Mills YouTube channel and bought via her link in the description box :

(above is a screenshot so you can see what I mean).

Anyway... Miranda is lots of fun!

And the book is SO FUN! the map is super beautiful and has what looks like handwritten notes in old fashioned brown ink! 😍 The closeup of the map is to show you this!

I studied this novel in my English literature studies. It is a joy to revisit especially with this lovely edition! My only wish is that it would have come with a bookmark! A ribbon would have been perfect or just a neatly designed one.

Nonetheless it's a really special lovely edition and is helping me enjoy my hours of convalescence!

My foot has been a bit sore today but it could be so much worse!

I go to the doctor tomorrow late afternoon. My dressing will be changed and checked on.  So that will be good!

I wrote more for my writing project and am really happy about it!

I have two books coming (used!) and that is something to look forward to as well....

I am so thankful that I made it through today.

May God bless and protect us all 🙏

Profoundly Cared For

Early yesterday morning (around 1 AM)  I woke foot sore. I got the 2 large medical ice packs from the freezer,  drank cold Kombucha and had my prescription 800 mg of ibuprofen and was much better.

Today I needed a lot of rest. I seem to have a bit of a cold 🤧 as well.

But I read all of the above book. It was so lovely.

So it was a very quiet day.

I felt very cared for. By God, by prayers, by my Husband and by friends texting me.

Tomorrow is going to be different.  I ask prayers.

May God have mercy on us.

Sunday * Day 4

Hard to believe that this picture was from last Tuesday!

Well I don't need the cane all the time! I stayed home and listened to liturgy but hope to be back at church in person soon.

I managed to walk 1 block today! Slowly, with a cane.  I don't want to lose strength....

I am hoping to get back to my writing project soon.

We had the first of our turkey casserole....

I am so thankful for my recovery so far....

May God help and save us!

Day 3 Convalescence: Graduated to a Cane

Don't worry I read up on it. I am having less pain.  I could tell that I simply didn't need crutches any longer.  Soon I hope to graduate from needing the cane. Surgical shoe I will need for a few weeks however.  Rest yes. Ice. But I need to be as active as I can be meanwhile.

May God have mercy on us 🙏

Ps: got the cane for 4$ at the VNA rummage sale. I love a good deal!

Day 2 of my Convalescence

My Grandma sent me a get well card; so I would know that I was not alone. I called her this afternoon. She has a cold first one in quite a while. She was helping my Aunt R. Tonight dinner out with family.  Every phone call and card from her is a gift. She's 92.5 years old now.....

I had help today. Taught her how to make soup. I was "dying" for a nap but had to stay available....

I can tell I am slowly gaining but it is going to take time. If I am up too long my foot throbs.  My friend pointed out to me that 3 of my toes were broken this week! That's part of the surgery.

I enjoyed tea. Finished Sean's new book (it's great).  I am glad for so much. I pray for healing....

For all of us, for the world... 🙏

Day 1 of my Convalescence

Opened Sean's newest book 📖 ☺️❤️ am enjoying it!

I had a pretty rough sleep.

More pain from swelling today.

I feel calmer.

A rainy day 🌧☔️ ... a welcomed quiet...

Praying that I sleep better and that the swelling goes down....🙏

May God have mercy on us!

Tea and Breakfast Station 🫖☕️✔️ + Miraculous Help

Milk and Yogurt are in 3 glass jars with 3 ice 🧊 packs in the bright floral lined mini-freezer bag that's in the basket behind the bag of granola with the already filled electric tea kettle! 🫖☕️🙃 the MUFFINS are in a plastic bowl with a seal tight lid ... in the basket hiding behind the tea 🫖 kettle 🥰💞

It means so much that I can do breakfast (with advanced planning) on my own! The more independent I can be the better!

And tomorrow I get to try my new tea!!!🎉🎊🕯🎊🎉🎊💞💞💞💞🫖🫖🫖🫖

Of course I am not at all HAPPY about this!🤣🙃🙃🙃🙃

Seriously though when in summer of 2017 we had to hire help I had to depend on my Husband, and various daily helpers for everything... Talk about a steep learning curve 😳😥 that was SO HARD especially because we had an ongoing unbloggable hard that went on in total for 2 years and we were in the second year when I broke my ankle badly and was totally incapacitated. I was on bedrest for 2 months and the first week I was a huge fall risk and needed help getting out of bed so I could hobble to the bathroom! 😳😥 (I eventually got a cast and a social worker and at home PT) .... sometimes I had my daily help, social worker, PT and another helper come all on the same day! It was so busy! My local priest came once a week and gave me Confession and Communion. 🙏❤️

So I have permission to go to church once this weekend (I have to sit the whole time and because of extra stairs cannot stay for coffee hour 😔) BUT it will be so exciting to be in church and be able to have Communion this Sunday DV...

So now you know WHY having more independence and my tea and breakfast station is so meaningful to me! 🫖☕️❤️

I could even light a candle for prayer 🙏 🕯❤️☦️🕯💞

All things I could not do for the summer of 2017.  So the doctor wants me up 30 minutes and then down (foot up) 30 minutes so I am going to "walk" around our house with my crutches (partial weight bearing) so I don't loose strength. It took me MONTHS to regain strength after the bad ankle break and WEEKS of PT at a PT place too.  So it's really important that I do what the doctor says. Of course I will rest and nap too. And if I nap for more than 30 minutes I am not worried.  But I will for sure get up also because being down all the time = risk of blood clots.

Well now it's time to sleep.

Oh wanted to mention....

It was one of St John's feast days. He was an amazing Saint who often visited the sick even in miraculous ways (like showing up unannounced to sick who God told him about).  Maybe that seems strange to you? However I remember a friend who got desperately sick in Columbia no one knew where she was sick in bed (unable to leave the bed at all!) For 2 weeks until a woman burst in saying God told her where my friend was, picked her up out of bed and took her to the hospital! She would have died. God used that woman....!!! It was before cell phones no in Canada (her home) knew where she was she missed her flight back they were FRANTIC....

So St John is one of my and many other favorite Saints. I personally talk with a woman who as a child in Shanghai saw Saint John.  I could go on....🕯☦️🙏❤️

But it's late. Tomorrow I hope to video chat with friend. I can tell loneliness is one of my big challenges for the next while so that will help a lot...

May God bless and sustain us 🙏

Home! Surgery was Sucessful 🥰

I listened to a lot of the Liturgy on headphones 🎧 🎶🙏 it was sunny and peaceful 🌞

I was struggling to stay calm (and not cranky) when I had no food or water since the night before and had the IV port in my arm for a good 3 hours before the surgery! It was starting to throb.... but the surgery went GREAT 👍 .....

As I wrote a kind friend....who asked how the surgery went....

Hi! Thank God it went well! They were over an hour behind so I didn't get home till 5 PM when originally I was told I would be home by 2. But the pain compared to my broken ankle some years back is more manageable and I have medicine and ice packs. The doctor said I could go to church this weekend but only to the service not to coffee hour because of all the stairs. After doing the stairs coming up with my crutches it wasn't hard but my foot started hurting more. I see the doctor a week Wednesday so that's not so bad. I'll need the crutches for the next week at least. But I can use my heel on my hurt foot so it's easier to use the crutches!

I'm definitely tired but that's to be expected!

THANKS to everyone here for your prayers!! They really helped a lot!

Tomorrow I plan on taking it easy and enjoying tea and books maybe even a movie!

My husband has been a trooper I was very glad that the hospital I was at wasn't that far from our house... Not next door but not far using the highway! So he was home after I went into the what they call the holding area... So that was good and then I called him and told him when to come back! He's taking good care of me!

Again thank you everyone for your prayers!

countdown + beauty

I found my favourite NYC Block again with such lush green plants. Amazingly the whole block was also full birdsong.

So I did my favourite things today. Visited my library briefly. Got some Agatha Christie.

I went to the MET. Was calmed by the beauty.

I ate out.  It was a perfect sunny fall day.

Tomorrow I go to Hospital at 8 AM. Foot surgery about 10 AM.  I won't be back home until about 2:30 in the afternoon. It's going to be a long exhausting day.

Asking your prayers.

Muffins Made

So much has been done. Thank God for His mercy 🙏

About Today (Canadian Thanksgiving Proper)

This morning I woke up a bit after 4 AM (😳🥱) and finished and put away nearly all the dishes and put the writing table back. And then cabbed to do pre-admisisson testing for my Wednesday foot/toe surgery 🥴....

Then I came back and set the table for Autumn 🍂

I just got my "if I come home using crutches" (and thus have no hands free) stations set up! Will add electric kettle to this!! For tea 🫖☕️

Now laundry and baking my favourite muffins await! Good thing I napped before lunch (4 AM waking up after going to bed after 11:30 PM = NAP!)

I am really hoping to go briefly to NYC tomorrow 🙏 as the day after is surgery day with 4 to 6 weeks recovery time...

May God help us! So many are in such great struggle....🙏🕯

Canadian Thanksgiving Joy

Happy Canadian Thanksgiving 🇨🇦

Mr Husband suggested the crockpot for the turkey breast!! Thankfully I had the perfect recipe (from the fix it and forget it slowcooker cookbook) 🙃

So thankful!...🇨🇦🍁🍂
