Standing, Standing...and walking! and baking!

I got the shoe lift yesterday in the mail,

after PT and I have been mainly walking without crutches 

ever since.... (it is still painful at times but worth it).

So today I baked for the first time!

A bit of a small one bowl wonder recipe! 

I hope to bake another on soon!

And the toaster oven = not so hot house!

I also did a card and origami puppy dog for a 

young sweet girl I know! 

And tonight I went to vespers for St Herman

*by myself* 

(took a cab there...that's often how I got there pre-injury).

So that was quite wonderful.

I go back to PT again tomorrow.

My foot muscles are still really tight/stiff.

Lots of work yet to be done.

And hopefully I get a better air cast/boot soon too, 

been having some problems with the one I have.

Husband brought me home 3 roses!

It's so nice to have some good things to report today!

{celebrating moments in life} ~Kindness of Mr. Husband & My Godson

The other day Mr. Husband and I cabbed home

together after meeting at the farmer's market:

he bought me three roses. :)

The other day my sister-friend and I were

video chatting and I talked with my godson

for a bit too.

He's four; he said after a bit to his Mom:

Mom, now is the time I can play,

and so got down to go play.

(He loves Thomas the Train Engine;

you should of saw earlier this year when I gave him

some of the DVDs featuring Thomas and

his eyes got all BIG and happy

at this unexpected gift. :) )...

I have a feeling he was off to play with a train,

or maybe the swords that his Mother bought 

for these 3 munchkins for Christmas from

Mr. Husband and I...

Just before my godson went off to play,

I had just been telling him about how I held him as 

a baby when he was baptised and how I held him

for his First Communion the day afterwards. 

His comment to that was of course,

I am a big boy now and go to Communion By My Self ;)...

As he went to play,

I told him that I loved him

and he said,

I love you too and went off to play.

It was so special! 

The first time he said he loved me.

His Mom and I both knew it and were so happy for that

dear moment.

I am already dreaming of a quilt I hope to make for him,

featuring Thomas the Tank Engine...!!! :)

Beauty in the Day...

Yesterday I saved the roses
that were wilting in the vase.

I have learned from my Mother,
from other Mothers,
from monasteries,
how important it is to have a home be beautiful.

What we put in our homes show
what and who we love.
Putting roses by icons,
lighting lampadas,
having a prayer corner,
it all matters,
it is all life building on life.

I really appreciated this blog post
to remind us to look for beauty
not just at the ugliness of our world.
It is a spiritual discipline,
one I am still learning.

I'm still having lots of tired spells.
Been in the house for two days again.
Tomorrow I hope for no rain and that
I can be out in the courtyard.

It is so hard to be patient
and then I realize again
how much I need to practice thanksgiving.
I have so much to be thankful for:

Some lovely things came in the mail;
a card from a dear dear friend.
A book from Powell's books

Finally I have
Edith Schaeffer's 
the hidden art of homemaking.

I've already started reading it.
I hope to write more on it later.
It is a topic,
beauty in the home,
that is very important to me.
If she had been Orthodox,
wow, how much this would of changed things.
I think her understanding of the importance of
creating beauty in the home
as being integral to being a Christian
would of found a depth that is missing in this book,
as in there is not a chapter on the fasts and feasts
or how bringing in the life of the church
into one's home
is of vital importance.
It's why I started the series Faith @ Home.

I really do wish for any and all comments or
emails on this topic.

I am hoping that my series can be one of the
sources that can help and inspire others
as we all seek to bring the faith of the church
into our homes...

It is important for women to know how to bring
the faith into one's home.
A good friend of mine encouraged me in this,
saying that it is an important way also to
teach children.

Marriage and blessings

Mr. Husband got me this rose bush
when we were very newly married
and just back from our honeymoon.
