My Oma's Blankets

For years I had this blanket, and the ladybug
pillow that you see the top of.
It was not until I started knitting
that I really feel I saw what I had
in my Oma's blankets.
The one above is such a delightful bright
use of colours in seed stitch,
with border that ties it together.
Someday I want to make one like this.

My blanket is really patterned
after this one.

Here is the other blanket of my Oma's I have
so cozy on my white chair;
Cleo loves both of these...

I am making progress on my blanket
and now have the pattern of colours repeating...
I am very pleased with how it is going...
A little hard to tell, but the third red that is being knitted
is the same as the first, below the middle brighter red.
I am still thinking of how I will make the border...

Second half of blanket ~ cute new yarn!

I got this new huge skein of
yarn at Michael's on St. Elizabeth's Day with Mr. Husband.
I made three balls of yarn from it so far and
have lots left!
*
It is for my September School Blanket
and as it is for a newly 6 year old boy with a
mother who is a very busy woman,
I wanted yarns that are easy to care
for and can be thrown in the wash
without any concerns.

As I just got the yellow,
I am doing a small square of it towards the top
middle of the blanket so that the
yellow will not just be
at the second half of this blanket.

I got a bright orange skein of yarn too!
for a nice bright square in the second half of the
blanket, with two more littler yellow squares...

I pinned the finished ones together as
I like how I had arranged them for sewing but can't
keep them all spread out meanwhile...

Pinning them together just added to the
excitement of realizing how far
I've come on this one!
All that knitting in the car rides to
and from church...
All of the big squares are about two hours of knitting
each, so I have put in a lot of time for this
blanket and am really loving
how it is turning out.

When I was finally done with this little
body butter container
that I'd gotten years ago on sale in Ottawa,
I cleaned it,
ran it through our dishwasher
and now use it for my large safety pins
(Micheal's sold them as 'quilting pins'...
I was just glad to finally found some large ones!)

In a way I am doing my first
bit of 'pattern work' as I have to make some things
to size now for this blanket;
figured out that 12 stitches in this green
yarn was the right size for the strip that
is needed... :)

It is so fun to create things...
Are you creating anything recently or
doing anything that you enjoy?
Would love to hear!

Rainy Friday ~ home, NYC and pondering blankets

I and many others prayed for my
Ottawa deacon's son N. who had surgery this morning
and for my friend's father's surgery.
On days like this I light my biggest prayer candles....

It is raining here,
since late last night.
My heart sunk when I read about
tropical storm Andrea.

I light many lampadas.
I am supposed to go to NYC this afternoon
for a doctor's appointment.
I could use some prayer about my travel
and for further healing...

Our Basil plant.
Mostly alive and a beautiful green...

The rose bush is still with us,
I really love this one
that Mr. Husband got me on the day we came home
as newly married.

So I have a good number of the squares for
my blanket.

I am wanting to have more colours in it;
would like some orange and perhaps
greens and burnt red.
Basically more variety that there is so far.
Open to suggestions!

It is for a 5 year old boy I know in NJ
at one of my churches here.

I am learning to purl and actually did some
stockinette stitches yesterday!
I need to learn this so I can use the various types of
stitches to make things like
slippers, hats, mittens, maybe even a sweater one day.

Okay, well it is raining.
Time for lunch.
Time to get ready to try to go to NYC.
Please pray for me and all of us that
no really bad storms come...
