St. John of Rila and St. John of Kronstadt

St. John of Rila 

has long been a special saint to me

as he is beloved of my Ottawa parish.

Here is a short version of his life

and here is a little longer version, which is very lovely.

Both are really not that long to read!

St. John of Kronstadt was named for St. John of Rila.

Here is a small autobiography he wrote.

St. John also wrote a much beloved book,

which I read part of at my dear sister-friend's house

some years ago and that Mr. Husband has...

that is on my 'to be read' pile.

Both are wonderful intercessors for us!

In all your works, either at home or at the place of your service, do not forget that all your strength, your light and your success are in Christ and His Cross; therefore, do not fail to call upon the Lord before beginning any work, saying: Jesus, help me! Mid-Week Already

Yesterday was St. John of Rila

and St. John of Kronstadt's days.

Liturgy was beautiful.

I hope to continue to get to know each of these

Saints better;

thankfully I have paper versions of Akathists to both of them...

We celebrated another birthday at church.

I made the cake :)

Lemon with lemon glaze.

I am clearing the decks for

my new job search.

How much I wish I did not have to look for work again.

But, as a close friend reminded me,

God will not abandon me in this search.

This is my icon of St. John of Kronstadt.

share the same feast day.

Old calendar this feast starts today and is all day tomorrow,

a Sunday.

This is a great blessing!

St. John of Kronstadt is named after St. John of Rila.

We have icons of both Saints in our church

they are very beloved by us.

We can learn much of God's love and of how to pray

from both of these Saint Johns.

Icon Light

I love St. John of Kronstadt.

I got this icon over Christmas and New Years holidays when

I was at the monastery.

My lampada, at my old apartment,

was lit in front of a paper copy

of this icon.

When I got the icon of Rublev's Trinity,

the lampada became the light for the icon of the Holy Trinity.

Finally, this past weekend, I had time to put up my small shelf

and now have a light by St. John of Kronstadt again.

When ever I enter this room, I am deeply encouraged to see

the bright light by St. John.
