I'm Still Alive (in case anyone was wondering!)

I survived the Christmas party. The food was good. They had mashed potatoes. This made me happy.

The lighting was ambient and nice. For a while they played music much too loud. Everyone seemed happy, talking with one another. I left around eight-thirty.

I am tired. By the taxi ride home (buses are on strike right now, very UNCOOL, boo hiss; and it is cold out) my earrings felt heavy.

A nice woman who is quite new was my friend. I was quiet for a lot of it. The standing for an hour talking holding a glass (I had cranberry juice as I said I would) was long. I started to struggle but then I started praying and I knew that others were praying too. I felt at peace and happy to look at everyone and smile and pray as best I could.

I am really drained now and am glad to be home. I am glad also that I do not have to do that all the time. The dinner was fine though and I felt more relaxed. It was just the standing for that long at the beginning was hard.

I am glad it was a calm dinner party.

I was really happy to wear my new outfit and jewelry; I even did my hair, which is not saying much though. My hair curls naturally after being washed so I put hair stuff in and scrunched. That is all I am willing to do to it!!! But yes, it is FUN to be a girl and dress up....

Thank you everyone for your encouragement, advice and prayers.

Sorry that there were uncomfortable moments (I know how such social milieus can be), but it sounds as though you handled it all with fine grace. Glad that the dinner was good. Thanks for sharing the update!

I know, I prefer sit down dinner occasions better too, just because standing and mingling can be a bit forced, and you might want to come up to someone, but don't want to break their conversation, etc. etc. And they are exhausting mentally and physically. But hey, at least the food and cranberry juice were good ;)

I just never imagined that library business lead to such a glamorous lifestyle :)))

thanks everyone... i think it is esp. hard as i do not know a lot of people there as i am in the library and a little isolated... and i do not have much time to go out and say hi to people as i am usually swamped with work...

but i am glad i went and survived and that it was not too bad...

really appreciate the friendly blog support!

I hope that despite the awkward moments, you had a great time. When I don't know people, I tend to be quiet as well. I just let the others talk :) I bet you looked fantastic!

thank you very much Michelle. I really appreciate your comment! I can say that the best moment was right after I felt overwhelmed and then remembered to pray; at the same moment I knew also that others were praying. It made me feel a lot less alone...

thanks again for your comment!
