It was so beautiful yesterday.... sunny blue skies....
Because I am gearing up for my foot (toe) surgery (moved to Wed the 12th of October) I am pretty sure I will not be able to be in NYC for a month or so. [By PATH train and subway equals a good deal of walking and stairs....though I am figuring out elevator options!]
Everything is always more precious when you know you won't be there for a bit.
The newer "bisto" tables my library has out. There is construction on the sidewalk VERY close to the library and it was a mercy of God that right when I was having breakfast it was silent!!
These tall narrow windows in threes and in a diagonal formation I found fascinating...
But I especially loved this lamp....classic and reminiscent of Narnia, of course π☺️
And that was yesterday in New York City.
Though I am haunted by a woman who was asking for money sitting on the sidewalk when I looked directly at her.... her makeup could not hide her eye and lip that both looked swollen, bruised π₯Ίπ³πͺπ .... a reminder that many live in very difficult situations while I live in safety comfort and with happiness....
It's all mixed up in NYC .... you see it on the subway.... I saw a well dressed grey haired man on his phone and a guy asking for money for breakfast. [I always feel a bit unsafe when on a subway train π and someone asks loudly for money...]
I saw a another very fancy man younger [30s perhaps] with a well cut suit, expensive golden brown leather shoes open a door near the Greek Embassy... he opened the door quickly looked out as he did and then (startlingly) broke into a fast run that he made look elegant as he sped off down the street. Quickly afterwards another man came out dressed in more casual clothes.
A lady large dark big silver earrings sang quietly to herself on the Subway and when I looked at her eyes (she was diligently wearing a cloth face mask) I realized she was quite young. We were sitting next to each other. She got off into the swirling crowds of the NYC Subway....
So many stories in NYC.
So many tired faces.... or young and unlined .... but many tired, so many lined faces....
I found myself wishing that they would experience some kindness in their day, some comfort, a bowl of soup, a quiet cup of tea....
May God have mercy on us π

It's heart breaking to see the many needy souls asking for money. I never know how to respond. DH is more apt to respond to the demands; I just hurry on and whisper a prayer for them.
You describe your experience so well, Elizabeth. Visiting Indianapolis (which has only a fraction of the population of NYC), I notice such a wide variety of people - and all seem to rub shoulders unaware of their differences (or so it seems to me). Of course, the suffering are another story. Heartbreaking and haunting for sure. It is a struggle to know if and how to respond, or when. Praying you have a successful surgery next week!
