Our first Christmas Ornament

Each year I hope to pick out one Christmas ornament for our Christmas tree.

Hand made from Russia.

I love this first one!

  1. My mother started that tradition for us when we were all born--we each got an ornament every year, and she bought one for them too, and then when we left home, we all had a nice stash of ornaments to start our own trees! I've kept it up with my own kids, although my mom still buys for me and my kids now too, so they will have double!

One thing that she did that I thought was neat (and I've had mixed success trying this myself) is to find an ornament that represents the year. So one year, it was something to do with art stuff, another year, with books, etc. Some years were more accurate that others, but I can look at every ornament she bought me and remember why. I love that.

  2. That's a beautiful tradition. We don't have annual ornaments, but we have some that my sister and I made in school, and at home with my grandmother when we were little. (The salt dough ones lasted about 25 years before they sadly got a bit damp.) There are also a few that my mother and my grandfather made as children!

  3. That's a lovely ornament!

We haven't had a formal tradition of a new ornament every year, but it ends up that way anyway. I remember that one of my great-aunts used to make all of the grandchildren and great-nieces and nephews an ornament with their name on it every year, so I've kept that up with my own nieces and nephews. :)

  6. We have a very treasured plaster of paris owl ornament which my late brother made as a very young toddler and some ceramic bells made as wedding favours given at a friend's wedding. It's lovely to have such apecial memories!
