"First and foremost is the matter of prayer.
You should realize that there is a great difference between Protestant and Orthodox beliefs about spiritual realization. Orthodoxy is not overly formalistic or legalistic; the accent is on living with Jesus Christ in your heart and feeling His presence at all times. Prayer doesn't mean you have to read a certain number of official prayers. The Phiokalic definition of prayer is the feeling of the presence of God in you heart, even if you don't say any words. You realize this state of prayer by a continue dialogue with our Lord."
~Fr. Roman Braga
How beautiful this quote is <3
ReplyDeleteI love that quote, too. As a protestant I will say I agree with Fr. Braga's post. Most protestants I know would describe prayer exactly as Father Braga does. Thank you for sharing. I wander in here from Ginny's Yarn Along and always love to get a glimpse into Orthodox spiritual life.
ReplyDeleteBecki,
ReplyDeletethanks for visiting! Yes, I think most would relate well to Fr. Roman's words here. I think there may be two differences ~ one is the use of written prayers that Fr. Roman mentions - depends on what church group within Protestantism as some have prayer books and some do not. The other is the Jesus Prayer.
Visit anytime and thanks again for your comment, I really enjoyed reading it and you have a nice blog too! Ginny's YA is so great!!!
