It is knitting up nicely.

I am slowly teaching myself how to purl.
A very simple thing for most people.
Had a great discussion via my blog and FB
on what I did wrong...
I have not frogged this row back yet
but see that most likely I knitted two rows of
the knit stitch...
Am also learning how stockinette is only flat,
as it were,
on one side of things.

I am reading this book on with some beautiful
patterns to inspire me to further learning!
Sometimes the beginning of things is the most
exciting and I am so glad to be
continuing on in my knitting journey :)
I am also reading
With Pain and Love for Contemporary Man by Elder Paisios
that is wonderful. I wrote about this book here.

ReplyDeleteGreat progress! Once you master the difference between knit and purl there are so many different things you can do with your knitting. I spent ages just practicing those two stitches before actually making something.
ReplyDeleteI am so impressed that you are knitting for Christmas - yay!
ReplyDeleteI am a self-taught knitter, too. Youtube is a great resource I have found. And of course, the lovely yarn along ladies. :)
Have a good day!
It's so exciting to watch a new knitter expand and grow in skill. You are beginning down a road to addiction. (Sorry to have to tell you that!) :)
ReplyDeleteBlessings, Debbie
i love that you are learning and knitting so beautifully and for a gift too, how lovely! that is just what you did, knit two rows of knit, you made the garter stitch! you could do this intentionally now and make a pattern!
ReplyDeleteMy, you are knitting so quickly! I am still knitting squares for my daughter's patchwork blanket, and slowly working my way through about 80 books I need to review :-)
ReplyDeleteYour knitting is lovely. I'm self taught and you can do it!!
ReplyDeleteThere is something so exciting about hearing someone's thoughts as they learn to do something you love so much! It makes the cheerleader come out in me - go, go, go!!! Yay, hooray, woohoo!
ReplyDeleteI am self-taught and I remember those early days of figuring out the very basics and it's true that a whole world opens up to you with the basic knowledge of knit and purl. With those under your belt you can pretty much learn any other stitch, I think. There is so much to learn; I have been in love with knitting for 10 years now and I will never stop learning.
Looking good! :)
ReplyDeleteI am self taught, and I still have my first scarf in stockinette stitch. It is rolled into a tube because I did not knit a garter stitch border. Lol!
Nice job on the scarf. I too had a hard time learning how to purl when I was a girl. Thankfully, I got the hang of it. The Knitter's Year is one of my FAVORITE knitting pattern books.
