Cooking Query

In library science information gathering is examined - one of the ways of information gathering is by asking your friends. (The question in library school was how to get people to realize that there is a lot of information that a public (or academic or special) library can offer).

But even librarians love to pick other's brains for information and I am not exception! :)

So here's the question:

I have some canned chick peas. I also have curry paste in a jar. I am thinking of mixing these with some sliced boiled potatoes and yogurt. Any suggestions on how this should be cooked? Should I boil the potatoes almost all the way and then add them to the sauce? Should the sauce, potatoes and chick peas simmer in a skillet?

Yogurt added at the end?

If you have suggestions, please let me know. I think I will make this dish later on in the week.

Thanks!

  1. I would start with the potatoes. Do you have onions? chop them up and stir fry them... then add the curry sauce and let them cook until almost done; then add the chick peas and the yogourt. It would be good if you added something green like a bean or a pea. Or chopped spinach.

  2. I agree with RW - and really, what's the worst that could happen? You'd never make it again. Not too bad of a worst case scenario.

You could also cook it up and then put it in dumplings made from pie crust like samosas. Those are good for lunches the next day too.

  3. I do have onions and spinach...

    Further Question:

Would I boil the potatos first or do I stir fry them raw in slices/pieces? add the onion with the potatoes?

hmmm... I love somosas... I think I will stick to non-somosas this time, but only because I don't want to spend the extra $ on the pie crust... I will keep this in mind!

  4. no. don't boil the potatoes first - if you chop the pieces small they will cook in the sauce. much better.

  5. I am probably a little bit late, but I would definitely not boil them. They can have a nice texture if you just cook them right in the skillet. Boiling them might make them mushy. If you have already made this dish, I hope it turned out well!
